P670M budgeted for basic services in Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY, Sorsogon (PIA) -- The provincial government of Sorsogon is doubling down on efforts to provide basic services to residents of the remotest villages, with at least P670.8 million earmarked for this purpose in the 2024 provincial budget.

Speaking during the presentation of his 7K Program, Sorsogon Gov. Edwin Hamor said he is counting on the local leaders to provide their full support, especially since there are programs that are already fully funded by the provincial government.

He said that under the 7K Program, which stands for Kabuhayan (livelihood), Kalusugan (health), Kadunungan (education), Katrangkilohan (peace and order), Kagandahan (beauty), Kalinisan (cleanliness) and Kalikasan (environment), P100 million is allotted to health.

Hamor said the provincial government has purchased two mobile clinics that are expected to be delivered between March and April this year.

The 7K platform of the provincial government of Sorsogon aims to provide basic services from the most industrialized municipalities to the most remote barangays of Sorsogon, in keeping with the governor’s motto for the province, “Una an Sorsoganon (Sorsoganon first).” (PIA Sorsogon fie photo)

These are buses which have been customized to fit a laboratory, pharmacy, dental chair, and facilities for medical check-ups, he added.

Under the SMILE project, a budget has been allocated to provide free dentures to those who require them, he said.

Hamor said the mobile clinics will also bring services to remote islands and far-flung parts of the mainland.

“The project also aims to enhance the skills and capacities of hospital staff and doctors at the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital. It also involves the procurement of modern health equipment and supplies,” he said.

Likewise, P151 million was allocated for livelihood projects.

In addition, the budget earmarked P90 million for the cleanliness program, P78 million for community beautification, and P20 million for environmental protection. All these provide support for the tourism and aesthetic development of the province.

The 2024 budget for the 7K program also earmarked P60 million for the maintenance of peace and order.

The main objectives under this budget are to acquire additional patrol cars for the city and municipal police stations and to increase the installation of CCTV cameras and early warning systems.

“Last year, all municipalities enjoyed the share due to them, but now, we will improve further the delivery of services through just sharing so that this program can be felt by the poorest Sorsoganon,” Hamor said. (PIA 5/Sorsogon)
