LTO Bicol revenue exceeds target

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Office in Bicol reported on Thursday that it has collected a total of P1,668,801 in 2023, which exceeded its target collection of P1,925,000 for the year.

LTO Regional Director Francisco Ranches Jr. attributed this achievement to the intensified implementation of a free theoretical driving course as a prerequisite to securing a driver's license.

He said that the increase in the registration and renewal of registration of motorized vehicles significantly contributed to the collection, followed by payments of fines and penalties resulting from the enforcement of various land transportation laws and issuances.

LTO is the third-largest revenue-generating agency of the government, following the Bureau of Customs and the largest, the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

LTO Bicol is expanding its operation in the region by establishing district sub-offices to provide more convenience to the public and expecting more revenue collections.

This year, Ranches plans to intensify the "no registration, no travel" awareness campaign before apprehending unregistered vehicles. As of January 23, around 8,000 unregistered vehicles in the region have renewed their registration.

Ranches reminds vehicle owners to obey land transportation laws to avoid unnecessary inconvenience while on the road and to prevent higher fines and penalties when apprehended by LTO enforcers.

The Bicol region has a total of 572,139 registered motorized vehicles, while approximately 148,000 have failed to renew their registration.

As of last December, 456,114 individuals have secured licenses to drive, while another 314,754 persons possess student permits, a document issued by the LTO to first-time drivers.

The issuance of a student permit signifies that an individual has legal authorization to drive a motor vehicle, provided that they are under the guidance of a licensed driver.

The LTO Bicol's achievement did not go unnoticed by the LTO top management.

LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II commended the LTO Bicol for surpassing its revenue target collection.

Meanwhile, the LTO Bicol's target collection for 2024 has been set at P1 billion, which is P28,075,000 higher than the 2023 level. (PIA 5)
