Mobile library in Quirino’s smallest town aims to nurture drive for excellence among the youth

The municipality of Saguday, the smallest town in Quirino province, has recently launched its mobile library project in collaboration with the Department of Education.

Marjorie Soriano, one of the proponents of the project called Wandering Pages, said this is a visionary project nestled under the umbrella of Project Taoid, under the leadership of Mayor Jerry Pagbilao.

“It is a Mobile Library project that is aligned with Republic Act No. 7743 or the establishment of Congressional, City and Municipal Libraries and Barangay Reading Centers throughout the country,” Soriano said.

On his part, Mayor Pagbilao said he is very much elated to share their newest dream project, which he considers a testament to the town's unwavering commitment to education and the empowerment of the youth.

“We are called Bayang Mahusay, and as we continuously strive for excellence, our focus turns to nurturing the brilliance within our youngsters, laying the foundation for a brighter future,” Pagbilao said adding that the project is a collective dream that involves every individual, business, school, organization, stakeholder, official, and private citizen.

He also said they seek not just involvement but a shared sense of pride and ownership, recognizing the profound impact of the project on the community’s fabric.

“The heartbeat of this initiative lies in the diverse activities aimed at securing funding, such as the Handog Mo, KinaBOOKasan Ko, and the Barya Mo, KinaBOOKasan Ko projects. Your change can change our future,” the mayor said as he thanked the overwhelming response from schools, businesses and private individuals adopting coin boxes underscores the spirit of excitement, willingness, and generosity that defines our community.

Pagbilao further stressed that while the leaders are visionary and dream big, their confidence in achieving these dreams rests squarely on the shoulders of everyone.

“With everyone on board, we're confident that this project will be a beacon of empowerment,” he said.

Public Schools District Supervisor Sonia C. Pagbilao, co-proponent of the project, said Saguday came up with Project Mobile Library with the main goal of reigniting the passion for reading among the people, not only the learners but the whole community.

“We intend to bring the project to all the barangays but right now, the local government unit does not have a vehicle for the purpose and it has no funds to purchase one, so we launched the ‘Barya Mo, Kinabookasan Ko’ or the ‘Your changes change my future’ fund drive,” Pagbilao said.

She also announced that the coin boxes had been distributed for the supporters to drop their donations. The amount that will be raised will be used as additional funds for purchasing a vehicle and books.

As of this moment, some donors are already sending their pledges through various money couriers and coin boxes.

The district supervisor also urged her town mates and all those who want to share their small change to adopt a coin box and become a vital part of the Saguday Mobile Library project.

She further said the support does not only enrich the community intellectually but also plays a crucial role in building a brighter, more enlightened future for Saguday. (OTB/TCB/PIA-2, QUIRINO)
