Salt production facility to boost economic growth in Isabela City de Basilan

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) – The Isabela City de Basilan has reached a significant milestone this year in its quest for self-sufficiency and economic growth through the completion of its first salt production infrastructure.

The salt production infrastructure was constructed with 12 brine ponds, high-quality wood planks, and durable black high-density polyethylene plastic (HDPE) sheeting. With the ponds filled with saltwater from the nearby coastline, the stage is set for the natural evaporation process that will yield top-quality salt. This achievement is not only a testament to Isabela City's determination but also a significant boost for its local economy.

The project was initiated by the city government under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman through the City Agriculture Office as part of efforts to promote economic development and reduce reliance on imported salt.

Isabeleños hope that the new salt production facility will play an integral role in promoting self-reliance and supporting local communities by providing high-quality salt while also creating job opportunities for its residents.

As the facility begins operations in the coming months, officials from Isabela City's Agriculture Office are optimistic that it will contribute significantly to the city's economic development while also promoting sustainable aquaculture practices.

The completion of Isabela City's salt production infrastructure stands as a testament to the city's resilience and determination towards achieving self-sufficiency and supporting the local economy. Through this ambitious project, the city not only secures its salt supply but also provides its residents with newfound opportunities for economic growth.
