Authorities intensify war on drugs in ZamPen, seized P47.7-M total worth of shabu, marijuana on January 2024

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – Law enforcement authorities in Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen) showcased their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the streets by reporting the confiscation of over Php47 million worth of shabu and marijuana in the region in January 2024. Spearheading this effort were the regional offices of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Consolidated data from the Regional Operations Division revealed that, from January 1 to 31, 2024, a total of 7,017.5743 grams of shabu and 5.915 grams of marijuana, with a combined standard drug price of PhP47,720,215.16, were seized. Noteworthy among the major anti-illegal drug operations was the one in Barangay Calarian, Zamboanga City, on January 10, where 4.50 kilograms of shabu, valued at P27,540,000.00, were confiscated, leading to the arrest of four High-Value Individuals.

Moreover, out of the 122 anti-illegal drug operations conducted in January, a total of 136 individuals were arrested, marking a significant step towards curbing the drug trade in the area.

Regional Director Police Brigadier General Bowenn Joey M. Masauding emphasized that the successful anti-drug operations in the region attest to the steadfast commitment of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the welfare and security of ZamPen. "We commend the involved agencies for their relentless pursuit of justice and their continuous efforts to maintain peace and order. The fight against illegal drugs remains a top priority, and we will continue to work together to ensure a safer and drug-free community for all," said PBGen Masauding.

Anti-illegal drug operations were conducted by police stations/offices in Isabela City, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga del Sur.

On February 1, a joint operation in Golf Village, Barangay Calarian, Zamboanga City, resulted in the seizure of seven heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing approximately 350 grams with a value of P2,380,000.00.
