Ilocos Sur caravan delivers medical services to residents of remote San Juan town

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) -- Residents of the town of San Juan in Ilocos Sur benefitted from the medical services offered during the recent “One Ilocos Sur Health Caravan” which was organized as part of the celebration of the Ilocos Sur Festival 2024.

The San Juan leg of the caravan was the 21st organized by the provincial government under its "Healthy and Safe Citizenry" agenda.

It aims to provide medical services and assistance to residents of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

Among the services offered were:  medical and dental consultations, minor surgery, eye check up, medicines, vitamins, and assistive devices.

Those who availed of eye checkups were also given pairs of eyeglasses.

Residents were also given food packs prepared by the ONE Ilocos Sur Mobile Kitchen.

Catalino Villamar, a resident of Barangay Malamin in San Juan town, thanked the provincial government for bringing free healthcare services to their community.

"The health caravan has been beneficial to us as the provincial government provided free services and assistance we cannot afford considering our living conditions. We are grateful for this program and hope that it will continue. We also hope that the provincial government will continue to lend their support to our healthcare needs,” Villamar said in an interview with the media.

Ilocos Sur Gov. Jeremias Singson said the provincial government, with the help of its partners such as the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the LCS Group of Companies, and the Deokid/Biotech Foundation continues to improve its healthcare services so that more residents benefit from the caravan.

To date, the health caravan has benefited thousands of residents from the city of Vigan, the municipalities of San Juan, Narvacan, Sinait, San Esteban, Santa Catalina, Alilem, Burgos, Nagbukel, Santiago, and the municipalities of Banayoyo, Gregorio Del Pilar, Salcedo, Sigay, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, and Suyo, which have GIDA barangays according to the 2023 data of the DOH.
