ILOILO CITY -- The recently inaugurated innovation hub (iHub) at Guimaras State University (GSU) has opened its door to budding entrepreneurs, innovators, students, and stakeholders in pursuit of stimulating new ideas and encouraging collaborations and information sharing.

iHub is led by Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) through its consortium, Unified Movement in Western Visayas to Accelerate Startup and Spin-off Development (UMWAD) Western Visayas, and in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), GSU, and the provincial government of Guimaras. 

In her message, DOST Asst. Regional Director Dr. Naomi Cossette Luis referred to iHub as a space that fuels innovative ideas where startups can be nurtured, and key players like enablers, investors, and accelerators can gather and collaborate.

“SUCs often possess extensive infrastructure and facilities, enabling them to offer an available building that was eventually utilized and repurposed into the iHub. This approach maximizes resources, reduces costs, and promotes sustainable development,” Asuelo said in an interview with PIA.

Asuelo mentioned that SUCs have faculty members with diverse expertise, hence, the collaboration provides access to a pool of knowledgeable professionals who can be tapped and can contribute valuable insights and skills to the project.

To note, GSU provided the facility for ISLA Technology Business Incubator (TBI) which also houses the iHub. 

DOST likewise vowed to continue the linkage with partner agencies and institutions throughout the project's duration, providing necessary technical assistance through training, seminars, and workshops. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
