Women encouraged to take active role in digital economy

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) -- The United Nations-Asian and Pacific Training Centre for ICT for Development (UN-APCICT) and the University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines (USTP) jointly organized a four-day training dubbed the "Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI)" to enhance the digital capabilities of female entrepreneurs and encourage their active participation in the digital economy.

“This event is not merely an occasion; it embodies our commitment to empowerment and supports the innovation ecosystem here in Northern Mindanao. It is with great joy and excitement that the university and its partners embark on a transformative journey with the women ICT frontier initiative, or WIFI training program,” USTP President Dr. Ambrosio Cultura II said.

He commended the 50 participants for being the driving force behind why the a program had been initiated "Empowering women, especially in ICT, is a commitment to building a more inclusive and dynamic society. Together, let us create a future where every woman has the tools and confidence to thrive in the digital age," Cultura added. He also expressed his hopes that the WIFI training program would serve as an inspiration for women to pursue greater heights in empowerment and innovation, creating a meaningful impact on society.

APCICT Director Kiyoung Ko discussed the program's statement of purpose and presented the memorandum of agreement to the USTP System President, forging the partnership between the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the USTP System.

The Women ICT Frontier Initiative, a flagship program of APCICT, focused on a comprehensive capacity-building curriculum designed for women entrepreneurs. The training covered five key course topics, including a foundation course on women empowerment through business innovation and digital transformation, e-commerce and digital marketing, business continuity planning, trust and security in using digital technology, and data analytics for women entrepreneurs.
