PSA revamps birth registration scheme, enhances civil registration services

GUINSILIBAN, Camiguin (PIA) -- Focusing on streamlined services, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Camiguin highlights the 34th Civil Registration Month celebration in the province, showcasing programs like the recently rebranded Birth Registration Agent Project (BRAP), previously known as the PhilSys Birth Registration Assistance Project (PBRAP), Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), and other initiatives aimed at enriching civic life in Guinsiliban.

"Ang PBRAP nahimo na siyang BRAP kon birth registration agent project. Duna gyu’y isa nga atong gi-hire para mangita gyud nga mangita sa tanan gyud nga wa pa’y birth certificate. Kaykayon kinsa ba gyud tong tao nga naglakaw-lakaw sa Camiguin nga walay birth certificate," PSA Camiguin Chief Statistical Specialist Francisco Galagar, Jr.

[The PBRAP has become a BRAP or the birth registration agent project. We have hired one person to look for everyone who does not have a birth certificate. We will really look into those walking around Camiguin without a birth certificate]

Galagar emphasized that the possession of a civil document is a right of the individual, and obtaining a birth or death certificate must be done to avoid future problems. Noting this need, PSA is committed to improving civil registration services in all possible ways with its high-tech and easy access to harness the potential of information, he added.

As for the CBMS, Galagar said that the implementation of such in Guinsiliban is already complete, and the uploading of the clean data will be done in a turnover ceremony. This provides specific facts about the residents down to the barangay level.

Acknowledging the role of possessing a civil document in preventing issues and ensuring seamless services, the local government of Guinsiliban collaborates closely with the PSA to enhance civil registration services through a series of proactive initiatives, including senior high school, junior high school, and administrative personnel.

Activity highlights

Promoting the importance of civil registration, PSA Camiguin launched a series of activities to commemorate Civil Registration Month. The initiative aims to educate the community about the significance of proper civil registration processes and raise awareness about their rights and responsibilities in this regard.

The month-long celebration kicked off on February 1 with a motorcade and the hanging of informative streamers, setting the stage for a range of engaging activities throughout February. PSA will also hold the civil registration quiz bee and poster-making contest for senior and junior high school students, respectively, on February 23.

Various lectures on permanent validity and basic concepts of processing civil documents are also held in the different schools and offices in the province, including the Camiguin Provincial Police Office (February 12), Mahinog National High School and Sixto A. Abao National High School (February 13), Columbia St. Michael's Parish High School (February 15), Poblacion, Sagay (February 16), Fatima College of Camiguin (February 19), Catarman (February 20), Guinsiliban and Maac National High School (22), and Mambajao and Yumbing National High School (February 29).

PSA Camiguin also targets to heighten civil registration awareness among the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-10 by holding the same lecture at Manuyog, Sagay, on February 29.

With these activities, PSA Camiguin hopes that the locals will understand that obtaining civil documents is integral to establishing legal identity, citizenship, and familial relationships. As these documents facilitate access to education, social services, and various legal and administrative processes, contributing to the overall functioning of a well-organized and efficient society, PSA also ensures speedy, efficient, and seamless service to every resident.
