DAGUPAN CITY, Feb. 16 (PIA) — The Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital (DDVMH) joins the green wave, signing a 15-year deal with EEI Power Corporation for a 145.2-kilowatt solar rooftop grid-tied system at the hospital’s annex.
According to Hospital and Medical Director Vivencio Jose Villaflor III, this move, aligned with the Department of Energy’s push for sustainability, promises cost savings and a cleaner, greener future for the hospital.
The project is also in line with the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), which is a comprehensive initiative that aims to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in government facilities and operations, encompassing strategies to reduce energy consumption, optimize energy use, and promote renewable energy adoption.
“This venture represents a major step toward our contribution to energy sustainability — our small contribution in reducing our carbon footprint,” Villaflor stated during the contract signing held on Wednesday at the DDVMH Conservatory in Dagupan City.
Meanwhile, Salvador Salire Jr., director/general manager and chief energy management officer of EEI Power Corp., said the installation of the solar panel for Phase I will begin this February 2024 and is expected to be completed by April 2024.
He added that they will not be selling the system to DDVMH but rather charge them based on their monthly consumption at a fixed rate of Php 6.28 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
Moreover, DDVMH Chief Operating Officer Richard Lirio affirmed that they are committed to their advocacy of environmental preservation and energy-saving and conservation measures such as the use of the light-emitting diode (LED).
He said they are members of “Healthcare Without Harm,” an organization that pushes hospitals to come up with projects that would not harm the environment such as the use of solar panels or alternative energy.
EEI Power Corp., known for its international operations and unwavering commitment to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental protection, said the maintenance of the asset will be shouldered by them during the contract period.
Likewise, the EEI Power Corp will transfer the asset to DDVMH in the 16th year at a low cost.
For the remainder of the economic life of the asset, DDVMH will continue to own it and fully get the benefit of the asset.
The agreement is described as a ‘win-win partnership’ as its goals are set not only to provide quality medical care services for the people but also a brighter, greener tomorrow for the country and environment. (JCR/MJTAB/AMB/JCDR/APG/PIA Pangasinan)
