MARAWI CITY (PIA) -- The chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in Lanao del Sur underscored the importance of addressing cardiovascular diseases, which remain the leading cause of fatality globally.
Dr. Alinader Minalang said multi-faceted initiatives are needed to combat cardiovascular diseases, citing the urgency for comprehensive health promotion programs, advocating for accessible nutritious foods, and fostering awareness about physical activity.
"Kung hindi natin magagawan ng epektibong programa, mapupuno ang ating mga hospital [if we cannot make effective programs, our hospitals will be overcrowded]," he warned.
The IPHO chief also noted the significant burden cardiovascular diseases put on healthcare systems, hindering societal progress and development.
Identifying key risk factors like poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and unhealthy consumption habits, Minalang also highlighted the detrimental effects on individuals' quality of life, such as stroke and decreased ability to work or engage in daily activities.
However, he expressed optimism about managing these challenges through improved health services and effective advocacy.
He further stressed the importance of investing in promotion and preventive strategies to reduce hospitalizations and encourage healthier lifestyles.
As the nation observes National Heart Month, Minalang likewise emphasized the role of health workers in leading by example and promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness initiatives.
He said their responsibility extends from personal commitment to community-wide promotion, reaching every household and barangay in the province.
Commemorated every February, National Heart Month aims to raise awareness about heart disease as a serious health concern and motivate individuals to engage in physical activities and adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent cardiovascular diseases. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
