Military reservists, retirees now part of military’s peacebuilding, humanitarian efforts

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Military retirees and reservists in Western Visayas are now officially part of the Joint Task Force Spear’s peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts.

Maj. Gen. Marion R. Sison, JTF Spear and commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division of the Philippine Army led the establishment of the Western Visayas Reservist and Retiree Affairs Coordinating Council (WVRRACC).

The main objective of the coordinating council is to synchronize and coordinate the capabilities of the reserve forces of the Philippine Army, Air Force, and Navy in the region in promoting peace and expanding its humanitarian service efforts.

The WVRRACC will also enable its members to better understand the peculiarities of the reserve forces of the AFP’s major services, share best practices, and resolve reservists’ utilization issues within the view of JTF Spear.

The members of the newly-created reservists and retirees coordinating council include 3rd Infantry Division Deputy Commander Col. Lennon Babilonia; Col. Jonathan Gayas, Group Commander of 6th Regional Defense Community Group of the Philippine Army; Col. Hilario Devera, Commander, Naval Reserve Center in Western Visayas, Philippine Navy; and Col. Alvin Sevilla, 5th Air Reserve Center Commander of the Philippine Air Force.

Following its creation, the council held its first collaborative meeting presided over by Babilonia.

Sison commended the group commanders of reserve forces in Western Visayas for their collaborative  efforts that resulted in the creation of the RRA regional council.

“JTF Spear is optimistic that creating a regional council for reservists and retirees will synchronize the efforts of our reserve forces in Western Visayas. This, in turn, will bolster our overall responsiveness and effectiveness in HADR and in maintaining a stable internal peace and security situation in the region,” said Sison. (AAL/AGP/PIA 6)
