CAMIGUIN (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Camiguin stressed the importance of following traffic signs and road markings to enhance road safety and promote responsible use of public roads.

Transportation regulation officer Marlon L. Labadan said many road users, particularly motorists, have the tendency to violate or disregard road regulations, especially when there are no law enforcers in sight.

He emphasized the importance of abiding by road regulations regardless of the presence of authorities and the need for education and awareness campaigns to address the issue.

"Magbinantayon gyud ta even walay gabantay sa kadalanan. Atong ipadayon ang pagsunod sa atong traffic signs, kay mao ni siya ang prevention for road accidents," said Labadan.   

[Let's be careful, even if there are no guards on the streets. Let's continue to follow our traffic signs because this is the best way to prevent road accidents.]

He explained the basic road traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic rules, including the purpose of colors, symbols, and shapes associated with the signs, as a refresher and guide for road users and drivers.

With a vision to create a safer road environment and mitigate vehicular accidents, Labadan stressed the role of the local authorities, educational institutions, and community organizations in promoting road safety awareness and fostering a culture of compliance with traffic regulations.   

"Road users man ta, kanang mga gabaklay even without a vehicle, road users gihapon ta. Ato manang kalsada, kita man nagagamit ana so atong i-respeto atong road markings," said Labadan, emphasizing the need to follow normal procedures on using road pavements and markings implemented by LTO.

[Even if we are road users—those who are just walking by without a vehicle—we are still road users. It's our road; we also use it, so let's respect our road markings.]

Labadan also highlighted that road safety is a shared responsibility and urged individuals to adopt a mindset of responsible road use, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline and adherence to traffic rules.

LTO aims to create a safer and more orderly traffic environment for the province. With the help of collective efforts from road users and localities, Labadan said communities can work together to build an environment where road safety is upheld as a key priority, ensuring the well-being of all road users.
