CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Entrepreneurs who plan to put up stalls along the Camiguin Circumferential Road (CCR) to take advantage of the influx of visitors and devotees for the traditional Lenten “panaad” (vow) will have to secure permits from the provincial government.
Under Executive Directive No. 20, all requests for the installation of the structures along the CCR must be addressed to Gov. Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo, who also acts as the chairperson of the Panaad 2024 Executive Committee.
The Office of the Provincial Governor must also receive the request on or before February 29.
“The municipal and barangay governments are authorized to install public assistance booths and stalls along the CCR without the need for prior approval by the provincial government,” Romualdo added.
Likewise, the town mayors and punong barangays should inform and advise private organizations and groups on the need to obtain prior approval from the provincial government for the installation of the said structures along the CCR during the lenten season.
Romualdo also stressed that all uncategorized booths, stalls, stands, and other similar structures along the CCR shall be removed. To travel to Camiguin, one only needs to present his or her QR code, which can be obtained through https://islevisitcamiguin.com.
Panaad, a form of sacrifice either in fulfillment of a vow or as penance for sins, is annually observed in the province. In 2023, there were about 20,000 devotees who flocked to the island to take part in the activity. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
