Business establishments’ personnel undergo first aid training

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) - A total of 111 individuals from various micro establishments in this city have successfully completed a two-day basic life support first aid training.

The training aims to impart knowledge and skills related to basic concepts and principles in responding to emergency cases, following the guidelines outlined in the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Department Order 198 series of 2018.

Leslie May Canilao, owner of Canilao Farm School and Training Center Inc., a newly trained safety officer and now a certified First Aider, expressed her gratitude for DOLE's genuine effort and continuous collaboration with micro establishments. She emphasized the importance of applying the learnings, especially in emergency situations.

Conducted by personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at the Pagadian City Fire Station, in collaboration with DOLE-Zamboanga Del Sur Field Office and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Pagadian, the Aid training received  commendation from DOLE ZDS chief Miraflor Casanes. She praised the support of BFP in realizing the activity's goals of championing occupational safety and health (OSH) and producing more first-aiders in the province. Casanes explained that the availability and accessibility of such training address challenges faced by many micro establishments. DOLE's commitment to providing free first aid training is achieved through collaboration with BFP and LGU-PESO Pagadian.

Don Candato, a staff member of 3 Star General Merchandise, expressed his satisfaction with participating in the activity. He recognized the collaborative efforts of government offices in demonstrating their commitment and dedication to initiating First Aid training, highlighting that safety and health are everyone's right and responsibility in the workplace.

Participants underwent a series of first-aid training modules, actual demonstrations, and group simulation exercises covering wounds, burns, choking interventions, splinting, and updates on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. (RVC/EDT/CCP/PIA9)
