NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- Negrense leaders are pushing to have renewable energy as the primary source of electric power in the province. 

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the launching of SecuRE Negros, a multi-stakeholder-whole-of-society approach, that aims to develop a roadmap for renewable energy development in the province.

 The governor urged renewable energy industries to invest in Negros Occidental and seize the opportunity as the province opens its doors to clean and sustainable sources of power.

Lacson has garnered the firm support of the church, with the bishops of the province-Gerardo Alminaza of the Diocese of San Carlos, Louie Galbines of the Diocese of Kabankalan, and Patricio Buzon of the Diocese of Bacolod, expressing their support for SecuRE.

The church leaders have pledged to work hand in hand with the provincial government, local communities, and all stakeholders in implementing the SecuRE Negros Program, seeing the urgency of addressing environmental degradation and the disproportionate impact of climate change on the poor and the vulnerable.

“Whether driven by consumer demand or power utility needs, the future of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) is exciting, and we in the Provincial Government, other LGUs, the private sector, and even the Church are taking this path towards energy security,” Lacson added.
