PSA highlights agency, LGUs cooperation in improving registration services

LUCENA CITY (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority in Quezon celebrates the 34th Civil Registration Month by highlighting the contribution of local governments in fulfilling the mandates and functions of the agency.

During an episode of Kapihan sa PIA Quezon on Feb. 14, PSA Quezon Provincial Statistics Officer Airene Pucyutan, there have been numerous changes enacted within the PSA and in local civil registry offices to facilitate requests in a timely and efficient manner.

Pucyutan said: “With regards to the local government units initially, there were many complaints about marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc., that were registered with the LGUs. However, now some LGUs really have initiatives in place to expedite the process of obtaining certificates.”

PSA Quezon currently prioritizes the implementation of their services for individuals in far-flung areas, where registration or obtaining documents is challenging for locals.

The provincial statistics officer said that they rolled-out registration vehicles to remote areas within Quezon to hold mobile registration events. PSA also mobilizes their personnel to conduct house-to-house registration, receive requests of documents from the public, and census activities.

The Kapihan sa PIA Quezon on Feb. 14 was organized in line with the celebration of the 34th Civil Registration Month of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) by the Proclamation No. 682 declaring the month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino.

PSA Quezon notes that there’s a lesser number of cases that need to go through the courts to address registration issues due to reforms done.

"Now we have many processes that no longer need to go through the court, and our release is faster in coordination with LGUs to address our registration problems," Pucyutan added.

Regarding the issuance of PhilSys National ID, Pucyutan mentioned that 75 percent of the population of Quezon has already registered for the system. She clarified that if an applicant lost their tracking number, it is necessary to contact PSA directly by providing personal data such as name, address, and date of birth.

As the celebration continues within the month of February, PSA Quezon will hold contests for LCROs and students, including a quiz for registration staff and a culminating event for its closing ceremony.
