CITY OF TABUK,Kalinga(PIA)-- Filipino citizens qualified to register as voters will no longer have to travel to their hometowns to register for the upcoming elections as the Commission on Elections (COMELEC)-Tabuk City is participating in the "Register Anywhere Project" (RAP).
Under the program, voters may file their registration with COMELEC-Tabuk City regardless if they are permanent residents of Tabuk or not.
This initiative primarily aims to serve individuals such as students, and workers from other places who are temporarily residing in Tabuk to spare them the expense and inconvenience of travelling back to their home towns to register, Tabuk City election officer Reyman Solbita said.
COMELEC-Tabuk is hosting the RAP at its office in Purok 6, Bulanao every last Thursday of the monthbeginning on Feb. 29, until August 29, 2024.
Registrants should bring with them government-issued identification cards when registering.
Meanwhile, to boost registration numbers, COMELEC-Tabuk will also be going barangay to barangay to conduct satellite registrations.
Solbita also called on the public to register early to avoid getting caught in long queues during the last days of registration.
“Dakayon nga kayat na nag ag-register or agtransfer wennu ag-avail ti services ti COMELEC, umay kayun nga nasapsapa. Don’t wait for the deadline on September 30. Baka manen mapunnu-punnu kayo manen ti September, kaasi kayo nu haan kayo maabutan ti pila,” he said.
COMELEC-Tabuk is accepting applicants from Monday to Saturday including holidays, except on Holy Week which falls on March 28, 29 and 30, 2024.
Solbita said they hope to register at least 100 voters every day.
The voter registration period started last Feb. 12 and will end on Sept. 30, 2024.(JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
