LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently awarded livelihood assistance to parents of child laborers in the province to help them start a livelihood undertaking to provide them sustainable income.
DOLE-Ifugao Field Office chief Isabelita Codamon disclosed that 57 beneficiaries from the six municipalities of the province received livelihood packages worth more than P1.6 million.
These livelihood packages will be utilized for the proposed income generating projects of the beneficiaries like sari-sari store, gardening, livestock, rice and frozen foods retailing in their respective places.
The municipality of Alfonso Lista has the greatest number of beneficiaries with 26, followed by Lamut with 10; Kiangan, 8; Lagawe, 6; Banaue, 5, and Aguinaldo with two recipients.
Codamon said the intervention will help provide source of income to the parents so that their children will not engage in child labor.
She disclosed that child laborers are mostly abused in terms of workloads, wages and the kind of works they engaged in.
The provision of livelihood assistance to parents of child laborers as a strategy to eliminate child labor is under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
