TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a flood control project in Llanera, Nueva Ecija.
The 537-lineal meter structure was built along the barangay Caridad Norte section of the Talavera River.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st OIC-District Engineer Osias Santos disclosed that the completed project is a concrete protection wall with a steel sheet pile foundation that was designed to mitigate potential damages from flooding and provide enhanced protection to the agricultural lands in the area, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
“Beyond safeguarding agricultural lands, it serves as a protective measure that will significantly reduce the risk of property damage and potential loss of lives during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding,” Santos emphasized.
P80 million was allotted for the project under the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
For this year, the agency proposed the funding to extend the length of the river walls to expand its impact to adjacent barangays namely Caridad Sur, San Nicolas, and San Francisco. (MJSC/CLJD-PIA 3)
