Drug rehab center in Mountain Province opens outpatient services

BAUKO, Mountain Province (PIA) — The much-needed outpatient treatment services particularly for individuals struggling with drug use (PWUDs) and their families are now available at the Department of Health Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center-Mountain Province (DATRC-MP).

This regional drug rehab center in barangay Abatan in Bauko was recently accredited by the DOH-Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau as a “Free-Standing Non-Residential Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.”

With this development, DATRC-MP can now accommodate out-patient clients (all genders, adults, and adolescents ) for screening, intake and assessment, psychological evaluation, case management, and detoxification. These services are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

The DATRC clarified that patients requiring admission will be referred to residential treatment facilities. The center does not provide services to patients with primary psychotic behavior, but will refer them to a psychiatric facility.

Dr. Gary U. Ong, DATRC-MP chief, has been visiting  provincial and municipal leaders to enhance collaboration and partnership among the stakeholders in the province, and the entire Cordillera region with the end goal of presenting to the grassroots level what the Center can offer in terms of curbing the demand of illegal drugs, providing quality treatment, rehabilitative and other impactful health services.

One essential component of the government’s fight against drugs is the treatment and rehabilitation of drug dependents, and PWUDs.

“This serves a challenge for us as we collaborate together through the Bagong Pilipinas movement to build a better tomorrow for our fellow citizens,” said DOH Usec. Enrique A. Tayag during the inauguration of the DARTC on November 21, 2023. (JDP/CVBT-PIA MP)
