ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) - As a tribute to its rich heritage and remarkable progress, the province of Basilan kicked off the celebration of its 50th founding anniversary from Feb. 27 to March 7.
With the theme "Basilan @50: Advancing our gains, expanding our capacities towards a better life for all," the week-long festivities dubbed "Pakaradjaan Basilan 2024" will showcase the province's resilience, unique cultural heritage, and significant strides towards peace and development.
The celebration started with a multi-stakeholders' caravan along the Basilan circumferential road, followed by the opening of an agro-industrial fair, a tepo and tennun expo, and a photo gallery exhibit. These events aim to highlight Basilan's journey towards unity, progress, and cultural preservation.
Basilan's 50th anniversary serves as a testament to its inspiring journey from challenging times to a province that now stands as a symbol of peace and development. The tepo and tennun expo, in particular, emphasizes the importance of preserving and promoting the province's traditional weaving industry, which is a significant part of its cultural tapestry.
