CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – Senior citizens in the city of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro benefited from the vaccine provided by the local government unit.
With the help of medical personnel, Dr. Von Hidalgo and Charissa Flores-Sy, anti-pneumonia vaccines were administered to the city’s elderly residents.
According to Christian Alferez, a nurse of the city health department, it is important to vaccinate the senior citizens against pneumonia.
Pneumonia is a serious respiratory infection that disproportionately affects the elderly population, leading to hospitalization, complications, and even death.
Along with the vaccination, maintenance medicines and free health consultation were also given to the senior citizens. Medical kits were also distributed to the barangay health workers.
In her message, Mayor Malou Flores-Morillo said that the government prioritizes the health and well-being of seniors, who are more vulnerable to pneumonia due to weakened immune systems and underlying health conditions.
The vaccination drive is part of the city health department’s broader public health strategy, reinforcing its commitment to preventive healthcare measures. (GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
