QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has refuted accusations regarding his alleged involvement in a government cash aid scam.
A video presented to the public alleged that Zamora and a councilor from San Juan City were reportedly receiving kickbacks from social welfare subsidies intended for city residents. This was claimed by a beneficiary from Barangay Balong-bato, stating that he was approached by a councilor's staff, later identified as councilor Paul Artadi, who asked for a portion of the assistance provided under the DOLE's Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) emergency employment program. Another video purportedly showed Zamora allegedly receiving a cut.
However, Zamora questioned the authenticity of the videos presented, asking why those involved did not come forward to corroborate the allegations. He emphasized the importance of evidence to support such accusations.
It was also claimed that TUPAD funds were distributed as cash gifts to barangay officials in San Juan during Christmas, with barangay captains allegedly receiving P15,000 and allied barangay councilors getting P7,500 each.
Zamora countered and clarified that the San Juan City LGU is not involved in the distribution of TUPAD funds, as it is a program under the Department of Labor and Employment. He explained that their role is limited to listing beneficiaries, ensuring their eligibility, and assisting them in obtaining necessary IDs.
Zamora expressed his willingness to face any investigation in order to clear his name. He also mentioned exploring possible legal actions against his accusers. (PIA-NCR)
