LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- As the Panagbenga Festival paints Baguio City with colors and festivities, another attraction unfolds in the municipality of La Trinidad – the blossoming of flowers at the Bahong Sunflower Farm in Barangay Bahong.
The farm features imported sunflowers from Japan and Taiwan, offering a stunning view of majestic blooms. It also showcases various species of flowers like poinsettia, begonia, gumamela, and daisies, among others.
The sunflower farm first opened its doors in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic with the aim of providing a safe outdoor experience for visitors.
Farm owner Geraldine Cayat shared that oversupply of sunflowers that time led her to think of creating an open-air attraction.
"Purposedly para iti Mother's Day sana kaso na-over supply garud idjay Manila ta awan garud ti aggatang ken 'di ba, haan unay ti agbiyahe. Tapos diyay, naisip ko nga mabalin ti open air nga pagpasyaran isu diyay, naisip ko nga i-open daytoy farm, " Cayat said. [The sunflowers were purposedly for Mother's Day, but with the oversupply in Manila because there were no buyers, and there were still travel restrictions then, I thought of an open air destination, and opened this farm.]

The farm is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with an entrance fee of P150 for regular visitors, and P130 for senior citizens, children aged seven to 13, and persons with disability. It is open until July as the flowers are seasonal.
With the reopening of the farm, visitors are reminded to observe the guidelines and maintain cleanliness during their visit.
Cayat expressed her gratitude to the local government and other agencies for their assistance in promoting the new tourism site. (JDP/DEG -PIA CAR with Johan Mae Galati-BSU Intern)
