Iligan price coordinating council strategizes for price stability, consumer welfare

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) -- The members of the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) here convened to map out strategies and activities for the year, all geared towards managing and regulating prices effectively.

LPCC planned out activities to effectively manage and regulate prices to ensure stability and affordability for consumers.

Proposed activities include Operation Timbangan, Consumer Welfare Month activities, inspection of firecrackers, fireworks, and water refilling stations, and organizing a forum addressing the concerns of meat and lechon retailers.

Operation Timbangan will involve rigorous inspections of weighing scales in markets to uphold fairness and transparency in pricing.

Consumer Welfare Month activities such as press conferences, consumer quiz bowl, and vendor's quiz bowl aim to educate consumers about their rights. The council will also conduct rigorous inspections of firecrackers and fireworks vendors to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Water refilling stations will also undergo inspections to ensure the quality and safety of drinking water, specifically checking for compliance with sanitation, hygiene, and water quality standards.

Moreover, the council will also organize Kadiwa or Diskwento caravans to provide opportunities for consumers to access basic goods, prime commodities, agricultural products, and other items at discounted prices. Manufacturers and retailers will be brought together closer to the general public to ensure affordability and accessibility for all consumers.

Additionally,  a forum will be organized for meat and lechon retailers to ensure that their operations safeguard public health, maintain food safety standards, and promote consumer confidence in the meat supply chain.

LPCC is composed of the Department of Trade and Industry, Office of Councilor Marlene Young, City Health Office, Permits and Licenses Division of the City Mayor’s Office, the Bureau of Fire Protection,  Iligan City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Economic Enterprise Development and Management Office, National Food Authority, City Agriculturist's Office, Philippine Information Agency, and more.
