CITY OF TABUK,Kalinga(PIA) -- Another batch of cabbages from Benguet was sold to people in the province through the Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita or KADIWA program of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Three metric tons of cabbages were brought by the KADIWA on wheels program to Kalinga on Wednesday(Feb. 28). The veggies were sold for only P15.00 per kilogram at the Provincial Capitol to the delight of locals who were more than happy to take advantage of the cheap prices.
This was the third delivery of Benguet veggies to Kalinga through the market linkage program, according to Fevelyn Kiley of the DA-Agricultural Program Coordinating Office.
The first KADIWA on wheels loaded with Benguet cabbages came to Kalinga last January 18, and was sold out after only an hour.
The second batch arrived on Jan. 25 and sold not only cabbages but also wombok (Chinese cabbage) for only P13.00 per kilogram.
With incidents of farmers forced to discard or give away their produce due to the supply glut, the DA is stepping up to facilitate sales and connect farmers to buyers.
Cordillera farmers needing help are encouraged to get in touch with the DA-Cordillera Agribusiness and Marketing Division at 0966-0811-422. (JDP/IOS-PIA Kalinga)
