CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in Mimaropa has officially turned over various equipment to the Language Skills Institute (LSI) of the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro on March 4, 2024.
This initiative aims to upgrade the facilities of LSI, enabling it to expand and enhance the services and programs currently offered at the center. The ceremonial turnover emphasizes the commitment of DICT in fostering a digitally-empowered community.
The event was graced by key officials from both the local government and the DICT, who underscored the importance of technology in education and the development of vital skills for the digital age.
DICT Mimaropa regional director Cheryl C. Ortega stated that the activity is a product of the collaborative efforts between the national and local government.

Included in the turnover were ten (10) units of computer sets, a webcam, mini-speakers, noise cancelling headphones, HD surveillance kits, LED monitors, a printer, a barcode scanner, a multimedia projector, and a tripod screen all amounting to more than ₱500,000.
The upgrade of LSI's facilities is expected to enhance its capability to deliver comprehensive educational programs, including language skills development, ICT training, and other digital literacy courses. This aligns with the government's vision of building a competitive workforce equipped to meet the demands of the global market.
In addition to the equipment turnover, the event also featured a forum focused on women empowerment in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and a seminar on cybersecurity awareness. These sessions were organized as part of the celebration of National Women's Month, highlighting the role of women in the tech industry and raising awareness on the importance of cybersecurity in the digital age.
The women empowerment forum provided a platform for discussions on breaking gender barriers in ICT, showcasing successful female leaders in the field and offering insights into career opportunities for women in technology. Meanwhile, the cybersecurity seminar addressed the growing concerns over data protection and privacy, equipping participants with knowledge on safeguarding information in the digital realm.
