Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm first training course produce 77 corrections officers

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- A total of 77 corrections officers are expected to join the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) after completing the first training facilitated by the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF).

The officers under batch ‘Payonirus’ include 16 females and 61 males, who had their recognition rites on March 5.

Information officer CTO II Levi Evangelista said the previous batch of officers underwent their training procedures in other penal prisons, like in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, before IPPF facilitated its first training.

“Ngayon ay iri-recognize na sila as officers; still, they are trainees. Ibig sabihin kapag recognized na sila ay authorized na sila magsuot ng uniform," he said.

[Now, they will be recognized as officers; still, they are trainees. Once they are recognized, it means that they are now authorized to wear the uniform.]

After completing the corrections officer custodial basic course, which includes rigid training, officers will proceed to academic training.

The penal prison will now augment its force, particularly in handling security, with the number of corrections officers who have completed their training in IPPF.

A plan for having a training school inside the penal prison is also one of the goals while continuously facilitating the training.

“Ang hiring ay tuloy-tuloy din para sa second cycle ng 2024. Ang maganda rito ay dito agad sila sa Iwahig, unlike before, na mapupunta kung saan-saan," he said.
