MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) joins the nation in celebrating International Women's Day on March 8 and Women's Month with the theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!"
In a social media post, Director-General Jose A. Torres Jr. emphasized the vital role women play in Philippine society.
"Tunay na ipinapamalas ng mga kababaihan an kanilang kakayanan at husay sa ating lipunan ang kanilang tagumpay at kontribusyon ay patunay ng kasiglahan at kaunlaran ng ating bayan," Torres said.
(Women's achievements and contributions are testaments to their strength and serve as catalysts for national progress.)
The PIA chief then encourages everyone to empower women by creating spaces for them to express their voices and pursue their aspirations.
"Higit sa lahat patuloy nating isulong ang patas na pag trato at pagkakataon sa kanila, dahil ang kanilang tagumpay ay tagumpay ng buong lipunan," he said.
(Promoting gender equality and ensuring equal opportunities are crucial, because women's success translates into the success of our entire society.)
The message concludes with a call for unity and highlights the importance of women's strength in building a more prosperous, just, and equitable society.
"Sa ating pagkakaisa patunayan natin na ang kanilang lakas ng kababaihan ay tulay sa paghubog ng isang mas maunlad, makatarungan at patas na lipunan. Mabuhay ang mga kababaihan ng Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang lipunang patas at makatarungan para sa lahat. Abante Babae!"
(With our unity, let's prove that the women's strength is a bridge in shaping a more developed, just and fair nation. Long live the women of the Philippines! Long live a fair and just society for all. Woman Advance!)
It can be recalled that this year's theme aligns with the goals outlined in Chapter 15 of the National Policy Agenda to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. It envisions a new Philippines where women can rise above limiting gender norms and fully exercise their capabilities as equal partners in national development.
By emphasizing "Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas” (Equal opportunities for all), the sub-theme advocates for a just society where women are valued for their merits and not constrained by discriminatory stereotypes. It calls for dismantling biases that prevent women from participating meaningfully in all spheres of life.
On the other hand, the slogan "Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan” (Women's abilities, we'll prove), further underscores that women have immense untapped potential waiting to be recognized. It is a rallying cry to showcase women's skills and talents, challenge preconceptions, and enable them to contribute substantially to the country's growth story. (PIA-NCR)
