PH gov’t welcomes first batch of Moderna vaccines

MANILA -- NTF COVID-19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Sec. Carlito G. Galvez Jr. welcomed the arrival of 249,600 doses of Moderna vaccines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on Sunday, June 27.

Of the initial doses, 150,000 doses were procured by the Philippine government, while 99,600 doses were purchased by the private sector led by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).

Galvez was accompanied by Christian Martin Gonzalez, executive vice president of ICTSI, David Gamble, Jr., economic counselor of US Embassy in the Philippine, officials of Zuellig Pharma, and Department of Health Usec Carol Tanio.

A total of 20 million Moderna vaccine doses are expected to arrive in the country this year, of which 13 million doses were procured by the government, while private firms led by ICTSI purchased 7 million doses for their workers.

Currently, the Philippines has five COVID-19 vaccines brands in its supply inventory, which include CoronaVac from China’s SinoVac, AstraZeneca from the UK, Sputnik V from Russia’s Gamaleya, Pfizer from the United States, and Moderna also from the US. (National Task Force Against COVID-19)
