Bong Go continues providing support to displaced workers as he sends his team to Sta. Teresita and Buguey, Cagayan

PASAY CITY -- On Friday, July 16, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, sent assistance to hundreds of displaced workers in Santa Teresita and Buguey, Cagayan province.

Go’s personnel carried out two separate relief operations at Sta. Teresita Municipal Gym for 132 beneficiaries, and at Brgy. Cabaritan Gymnasium in Buguey for 98 recipients. Go’s team strictly enforced necessary safety and health protocols as they grouped the beneficiaries into smaller batches and handed out meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins.

As part of Go’s commitment to provide access to quality education to poor students, select recipients received computer tablets so that their children could participate better during classes under the blended learning set-up.

In addition, some recipients were given new pairs of shoes which they can use while others received bicycles for a more convenient commute amid limited transportation options.

“Makikita mo po ang Pilipino po ‘pag nagtutulungan kakayanin po nating malampasan itong krisis na ating kinakaharap. Hindi po namin kaya ni Pangulong Duterte ito, kailangan namin ang tulong ng bawat Pilipino,” Go said in his video message,

The staff from DSWD, then, provided beneficiaries with livelihood assistance grants through their Sustainable Livelihood Program.

“Salamat po sa DSWD sa programang SLP-LAG. Bibigyan ho kayo ng puhunan, tuturuan kayong magnegosyo. Pag lumago ang inyong negosyo, mas masarap po ang pakiramdam ‘pag pinaghirapan n’yo po ang inyong pagnenegosyo,” expressed Go.

Maricel Quitoriano, a 47-year-old market vendor, shared how she continues to struggle to sustain her family as her community continues to face difficulties caused by the pandemic. She further expressed her gratitude towards Go for extending aid to their town.

"Maraming maraming salamat, Senator Bong Go, at binigyan mo kami ng napakalaking biyaya na pandagdag puhunan. Salamat po sa computer tablet na aking natanggap, ito po ay magagamit ng dalawa kong anak na nag-aaral para sa online class nila," said Quitoriano.

The Senator, as the Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged the beneficiaries with health concerns to visit the nearest Malasakit Center at Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City if they may need any medical attention.

The center is a one-stop shop designed to provide low-income Filipinos access to medical programs offered by DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. To date, there are 129 Malasakit Centers nationwide.

Continuing his message, Go reassured the beneficiaries that the government is working hard to obtain sufficient vaccines for Filipinos and appealed to them to get inoculated once doses are available to hasten the country’s return to normalcy.

“Mga kababayan ko, focus muna tayo ngayon dito sa pagbabakuna. Mamaya na po 'yung pulitika dahil baka wala na po tayong pulitikang pag-uusapan 'pag hindi natin malampasan itong krisis na ating kinakaharap,” said Go.

“Ang ating target ngayon ay makamtan natin ang population protection at herd immunity po. Sana po, bago mag-Pasko para naman po sumaya ang ating Pasko,” he added.

To boost the economic opportunities and further improve public service delivery in Cagayan, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, earlier supported the funding for various infrastructure initiatives such as the construction of a multi-purpose building hall in Sanchez-Mira; concreting or improvement of roads in Aparri, Amulung, Baggao, Calayan, Gonzaga, Iguig, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Enrile, Tuao, Tuguegarao City; and many more.

Concluding his message, Go commended Representative Ramon Nolasco, Governor Manuel “Manny” Mamba, Vice Governor Melvin “Boy” Vargas Jr., Buguey Mayor Lloyd Antiporda and Vice Mayor Licerio Antiporda, Sta. Teresita Mayor Rodrigo de Garcia and Vice Mayor Ruben Fagela, and many other local government officials for spearheading their community to build back better, especially during these challenging times.

From July 12 to 15, similar forms of assistance were also given to beneficiaries of neighboring towns, including Claveria, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Lasam, Sanchez-Mira, Iguig, and Alcala. (OSBG)
