BOC MICP seizes P2.3 Billion worth of ukay-ukay in Valenzuela

MANILA -- As part of the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) intensified anti-smuggling campaign, the Manila International Container Port, through its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) and in coordination with the Port's Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Presidential Anti-corruption Commission (PACC), seized various counterfeit and used clothing from a warehouse located in Mayzan, Valenzuela City.

Armed with a Letter of Authority (LOA) issued by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the composite team inspected the subject warehouse. The inspection revealed the presence of counterfeit items with brands such as Nike, Louis Vuitton and Dior. Also found were various bales of used clothing, face masks and other imported items with an estimated market value of P2.3 Billion.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued MICP District Collector Romeo Allan R. Rosales for violation of Section 224 in relation to Section 219 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

In his statement Collector Rosales assured that the Bureau is committed in cracking down on prohibited goods. Rosales also stressed that the trade of used clothing may have negative effects on user's health and local clothing industries.

As the trade begins to pick-up and recover in the tailend of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Manila International Container Port remains committed in curbing the trade of prohibited goods under the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero. (BOC)
