QUEZON CITY -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) achieved another milestone as more than 20 million registrants completed the Step 2 Registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). As of 23 July 2021, a total of 20,724,895 Filipinos had their biometric information captured and demographic information verified at designated registration centers across provinces nationwide.
PSA Undersecretary Dennis S. Mapa, Ph.D., National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, emphasized the significance of this milestone in the face of restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic. “Reaching 20 million registrations for Step 2 this July means we are on track with our 2021 target of 50 to 70 million Filipinos registered for PhilSys. Given this pace, we are confident that by the end of the year, this target will be met. Despite the limitations brought by the pandemic, we are thankful for the unwavering support of Filipinos to PhilSys and their continued excitement to register.”
Appointment booking for Step 2 Registration through the online Step 1 portal (register.philsys.gov.ph) is currently available in 14 out of 17 cities/municipalities in the National Capital Region (NCR), and 377 cities/municipalities across 31 provinces nationwide. More locations will be added as PSA expands its operations for this step to accommodate more Filipinos. PSA encourages the public to register online for the PhilSys Step 1 Registration as early as possible.
The PSA also assures the public that it continues to strictly adhere to the health and safety standards mandated by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), such as the requirement of wearing face masks and face shields at registration sites, social distancing, and regular disinfection of registration kits. For a safe and orderly Step 2 experience, registrants are also advised to follow their appointed schedules as only a controlled number of individuals can be accommodated on any given day at registration centers. Walk-ins in registration centers are strongly discouraged.
Step 2 Registration is followed by Step 3, which is the final step to PhilSys and involves the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN), a unique, permanent identification number, and a physical identification card called the PhilID. One of the features of the PhilID is the PhilSys Card Number (PCN), the public version of the PSN, which shall be used by a registrant when transacting. Registrants who have completed Step 2 Registration will be issued a letter to be sent to their given address containing their PSN and PhilID, and are advised to safekeep the aforementioned letter with information regarding their PSN private and confidential.
PhilSys aims to provide a valid identification to Filipinos to ease public access to financial services and inclusion, social protection, health, education, and other government services. With PhilSys, public and private transactions will be made safer, more seamless, and more efficient as the country transitions into a digital economy.
