The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lazi, Siquijor with the Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) initiated a "Barangayanihan" activity where food packs of assorted goods were distributed to the families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was in response to the enforcement of a total lockdown in Brgy. Po-o, Lazi after the 13 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the municipality.

Records from the Municipal Health Office of Lazi show that 11 of the said cases were from Brgy. Po-o, and one each from barangays Capalasanan and Talayong.

The patients are under treatment and have been placed at the isolated facility in Caipilan, Siquijor, the report said.

It can be recalled that on July 20, Lazi Municipal Health Officer Dr. Iremaeus Selgas said that due to the additional 11 confirmed COVID-19 positive cases at Poo, the lockdown in the said barangay should start anytime in the evening until the COVID-19 transmission is controlled.

The lockdown was, however, lifted at 5:00 p.m. on July 26 following results of the swab tests conducted among the first generation contacts.

But households identified to still have the risk of transmission of COVID-19 infection are still being monitored by the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team.

They are advised to stay at home until they are cleared to go out, said Selgas.

Mayor James Monte called for the imposition of pre-emptive measures under Executive Order No. 15 in Brgy. Po-o,  specifically to the identified close contacts of the COVID-19 positive patients to prevent the further spread of the infection. (PR/Lazi Municipal Police Station)
