Red Cross assists monsoon-affected areas in Luzon

BATAAN -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), headed by its Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard J. Gordon, continues to assist in areas affected by the southwest monsoon in Bataan, Olongapo, Zambales, and Pampanga.

The PRC Bataan Chapter rescued 20 individuals from the flooded Brgy. Sta. Rosa in Pilar and served hot meals (porridge with bottled water) to 755 individuals in Balanga City and Pilar. The province currently has 62 evacuation centers sheltering 604 families or an estimate of 2,713 individuals.

The PRC chapter in Olongapo City also provided hot meals to 299 individuals in the evacuation centers while the PRC Zambales and Pampanga Chapters are ready and continuously monitoring their areas of responsibility, especially those affected by the floods. Health units are on standby for the possible outbreak of flood-related diseases.

"The floods we are experiencing as effects of the southwest monsoon have been a regular occurrence for some time now. While we are always ready with our response, we have to look for possible solutions to mitigate these effects. And needless to say, we must always be prepared with our go-bags and emergency kits," Gordon said.

Gordon is still directing all PRC services during this time of disaster, even while in isolation following his positive COVID-19 test last Wednesday. (Philippine Red Cross)
