PASAY CITY -- The Philippines on Monday afternoon, August 2, received 415,040 doses of Oxforld-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines donated by the British government.
This latest shipment is part of the 100 million vaccine doses the United Kingdom pledged to deploy to countries around the world, bilaterally and through COVAX facility.
The shipment, which arrived around 4:17pm at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, was received by National Task Force against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Galvez Jr., United Kingdom Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce, Department of Foreign Affairs Office of European Affairs Assistant Secretary Jaime Leda, and AstraZeneca Country President Ramin Lotis.
During a presscon held after the arrival ceremony, Ambassador Pruce noted the strong collaboration of the United Kingdom and the Philippines in addressing the global health crisis.
“Today is such a powerful illustration of countries working together. The United Kingdom has been able to donate these 4,015,040 vaccines and it will be wonderful to see in the coming days and weeks, the government of the Philippines deploy and administer these vaccines.” Pruce said.
