P1.17 Billion damage to infra recorded due to Southwest Monsoon

QUEZON CITY -- Partial cost of damage to roads and flood-control structures due to rains brought by Southwest Monsoon has now reached P1.17 Billion. 

As of 6:00 am Monday, August 2, 2021, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bureau of Maintenance reported that in Central Luzon alone, partial cost of damage to public infra is at P699.16 Million from P349.96 Million damaged roads and P301.20 Million to flood-control. 

Region 4-A has the second-highest infra damage with P224.2 Million from P222.62 damage to roads and P1.60 damage to flood-control structures, followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with P113.51 Million on roads, Region 4-B with P65 Million from P5 Million on roads and P60 Million on flood-control structures, National Capital Region with P39.66 Million on roads, and Region 1 with P31.05 Million from P14.05 in roads and P17 Million in flood-control structures. 

Meanwhile, DPWH Quick Response Teams have cleared a total of 32 national roads in Luzon but six (6) roads remain closed to traffic which include four (4) roads CAR and two (2) in Region 3 due to soil collapse and flooding. 

Road closures due to soil collapse were reported along Baguio-Bontoc Road, K0299+200, Paoay, Atok, Benguet; Abra - Kalinga Road, K0477+800, Poblacion, Malibcong, Abra; Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road, K0348+950 and K0351+300 - K0351+320 in Poblacion, Buguias, Benguet; and Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road, K0316+500, in Ambalideng, Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet. 

The Sto. Tomas – Minalin Road (Minalin – Macabebe Section) K0072+500-K0073+300, Telacsan, Macabebe, Pampanga and San Simon - Baliuag Road, K0059+(-600) - K0059+(-450) and K0059+(-720) - K0059+(-670) sections in San Isidro, San Simon, Pampanga are also totally-closed to traffic due to flooding. 

Currently, there are also four (4) national road sections with limited access. This include the Baguio-Bontoc Road K0362+600, Busa Bridge, Sabangan, Mt. Province which is limited to light vehicles due to soil collapse; Junction Layac Balanga Mariveles Port Road, Mariveles Zigzag Road, K160+000 - K0160+030, Brgy. Maligaya, Mariveles which is limited to light vehicles due to collapsed wheelguard; Apalit Macabebe Masantol Road, K0062+000 - K0062+350 and K0062+600 - K0063+400 sections in Calsada Bayu, Sta. Lucia Matua, Masantol, Pampanga which is limited to heavy vehicles due to flooding; and Mindoro West Coastal Road K0353+900, Pagasa Sect., Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro which is limited to light vehicles due to washed- out box culvert.  (DPWH)
