TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA ) - - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to improves roads leading to tourist destinations in the province of Cagayan, completing one component with three other projects underway in the town of Gonzaga.
Citing DPWH Region II Director Loreta M. Malaluan’s report, Secretary Mark Villar said that the Department has been working on road improvement in the municipality of Gonzaga which is home of the famous Mount Cagua, locally known as “Fire Mountain” in Cagayan Valley Region.
Completed is the paving of 4.24-kilometer road in barangay Magrafil complete with drainage, slope protection structure, and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
The Magrafil access road has a total allocation of P110-million funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for FY 2020-2021.
Another project with an allotted budget of P5-million is on-going in the same barangay with 91.26% completion that covers the concreting of 185 meters of road with 195 linear meter stone masonry and riprap.
In Barangay Sta. Clara, the on-going projects are the improvement of 2.78-kilometer access road and a 34-meter carriageway, both reinforced with concrete shoulders, retaining walls, line canals and slope protection structures.
“We want to complete these tourism improvement projects immediately to improve access and connectivity of residents and attract more tourists to the visit the wonders of this part of Cagayan,” said Secretary Villar.
“These road improvement projects leading to Gonzaga Municipality’s emerging tourist destinations are implemented in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to promote both tourism and socio-economic development in the province,” added Secretary Vill
