100k doses of UAE-donated Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine arrive in PH

QUEZON CITY -- The Philippines, on Wednesday, August 11, received 100,000 doses of the Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine donated by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Atty. Wilben M. Mayor, assistant secretary and chief of staff of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, thanked the UAE government for the vaccine donation.

“We’d like to thank the United Arab Emirates government for donating these 100,000 vaccine doses. This will be very helpful for the Filipino, especially during this time of the pandemic,” Mayor said.

He said the Hayat-Vax vaccine manufactured in the UAE was issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on August 11 by the Philippines Food and Drug Administration.

“The Food and Drug Administration has issued the EUA for the vaccine that we call Hayat-Vax which is from the United Arab Emirates dated Aug. 11, 2021. It was issued today by the FDA,” Mayor said.

The Hayat-Vax donated by the UAE is identical to the Chinese-made Sinopharm jab which will be administered to people aged 18 and above.

“Base sa nakalagay sa EAU, 18 years old [ang mabibigyan ng Hayat-Vax]. So susundin po natin kung ano yung nakalagay sa binigay ng FDA” explained added.

The arrival ceremony was also attended by Department of Health Director Ma. Soledad Antonio, and Khalid Alhajeri, acting charge d'affaires of the UAE Embassy in Manila.

As of to date, the country has received a total of 38,702,000 vaccine doses from different vaccine manufacturers. (National Task Force Against COVID-19)
