DILG Camiguin orients LGUs on CSO desk, people’s council

CAMIGUIN (PIA)--The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Camiguin Provincial Office conducted the Orientation on the Establishment of Civil Society Organization (CSO) Desk, and Institutionalization of People’s Council in the local government units (LGUs), August 17 via Zoom platform.

The activity was conducted in observance of DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2021-054 wherein all LGUs are to establish their respective CSO Desks, and create and institutionalize the local People’s Council.

“This is based on the premise that if we strengthen transparency, accountability, and CSO-engagement in all localities, governance will improve,” said DILG Camiguin Provincial Director Rhona Pedraza-Abadilla.

For her part, Program Manager Lorjezza Siao discussed the salient features of the DILG MC No. 2021-054, which consisted of the guidelines in establishing a CSO Desk, and the requirements in the Institutionalization of a People’s Council.

Cluster Head Jay Niel Anasco acknowledged the efforts of the CSOs in the Province of Camiguin saying, “It is worthy to note that the CSOs in the province are doing their part in COVID-19 response and mitigation efforts.”

The participants for the activity consisted of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDC), Sangguniang Bayan Members, Sangguniang Bayan Secretaries, LGU Designated CSO Focal Person, CSO Representatives, and the Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MLGOOs) from the five municipalities of Camiguin.
