TUBOD, LANAO DEL NORTE -- In celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) distributed relief goods to 1,304 vaccinated senior citizens in the municipality of Bacolod.
Instead of organizing a grand celebration for the elderly during this pandemic, the PSWDO proposed the idea of giving them five (5) kilos of rice and milk.
This activity also serves as the avenue for the provincial government to encourage senior citizens to get vaccinated.
Amid the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the province paired with the rising threat of the different variants, the PGLDN has been pushing vaccination progress among senior citizens.
"Daghang salamat Gov. Angging ug sa PSWDO sa inyong gihatag sa amoang mga vaccinated senior citizens. Unta maka dugang kini sa among proteksyon og kahimsog batok sa COVID-19," one of the elderly recipient said.
[Many thanks to Gov. Angging and the PSWDO for what you have given to our vaccinated senior citizens. I hope it will increase our health protection against COVID-19.]
Meanwhile, Governor Imelda' Angging' Quibranza-Dimaporo underscored the importance of boosting the immune system and getting vaccinated to be protected against COVID-19.
"People's immune system tends to weaken with age, which makes it harder for older people to fight off infections. Thus, it is crucial for us to protect our elderly and urge them to be vaccinated to gain additional protection from the deadly COVID-19. Additionally, I would like to thank all the senior citizens who took the leap of faith and trusted our government and health workers in the fight against our unseen enemy," she said.
The municipal police, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the PGO-CAD Coordinator of Bacolod were also present.
All vaccinated senior citizens in other municipalities are advised to inquire to their respective MSWDOs for the distribution schedule.(PIO-LDN)
