CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--Sheilou Marie Emanel, a BS Environmental Engineering student of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – Claveria Campus, bested 11 college students when she was declared as the Champion in the Inter-Collegiate E-Oratorical Contest, October 29 during the 32nd NSM Regional Closing Ceremony.
Runners-up were Mary Grace Sacares, AB Literature student of Northwestern Mindanao State College (Second Placer) and Ms. Jovelyn Bagares, BS Psychology student of Lourdes College (Third Placer).
Other participating schools were: Camiguin Polytechnic State College, Gingoog City Colleges, Inc., Iligan Medical Center College, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Misamis Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, USTP campuses of Cagayan de Oro, Jasaan, Oroquieta, and Panaon.
Rose Mae T. Lumasag, Education Supervisor II of the Commission on Higher Education-10, Louin T. Andayo, Economic Development Specialist I of the National Economic and Development Authority-10, and Sarah B. Balagbis, Chief Statistical Specialist of the Philippine Statistics Authority-10, composed the panel of judges. The judging of entries was done virtually, October 26.
The Inter-Collegiate E-Oratorical Contest was conducted in celebration of the 32nd National Statistics Month with the aim of raising awareness among the college students on the relevance of statistics in development planning and intervention, to enhance students’ knowledge on sociological and developmental perspective, to allow students to get involved in the affairs and development of the society, and to disseminate statistical information through public speaking.
