MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon (PIA)—In a bid to support the government's aggressive initiative to accelerate the nationwide vaccination roll-out, the City Government of Malaybalay has accomplished a record-breaking 13,943 COVID-19 vaccine jabs during the national government’s intensified three-day vaccination drive.
Dubbed as "Bayanihan Bakunahan," Mayor Florencio T. Flores, Jr. graced the event during the kick-off on November 29 in which a total of 6,103 jabs were administered—the highest ever recorded in a single day.
The following day, coinciding Bonifacio Day, the city recorded 2,547 vaccinated individuals.
On the third day, Assistant Secretary Dr. Roy B. Ferrer of the Department of Health (DOH) visited the main vaccination site of Malaybalay City, together with DOH-10 Regional Director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna, Assistant Regional Director Ellenieta N. Gamolo, and other DOH-10 key officials.
Asec. Ferrer administered a single jab to one of those on the queue to highlight the significance of the ‘Bayanihan, Bakunahan 2021’ event.
As of December 1, a total of 148,971 vaccines were administered. This brings to a total of 41.70 percent fully vaccinated and 75.87 percent of the target eligible population had their first dose.
The mayor thanked the tremendous support of the people to get vaccinated.
"This is a testament that we are willing to go in the same direction living up to the nation's Bayanihan Spirit as we move forward to Heal as One," Flores said.
More than 400 frontliners and volunteers joined forces to handle the overwhelming number of individuals who flocked to the designated vaccination centers. These include the assistance of City Health Office medical personnel and staff, Bukidnon State University, Department of Education, Red Cross, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Incident Management Team, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
