NorMin RDC holds Regional Development and Policy Research Agenda forum

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --The Northern Mindanao Regional Development Council (RDC-X) conducted a Regional Development and Policy Research Agenda (RDPRA) Forum via Zoom video conferencing on 6 December 2021.

Attended by 167 participants, the activity was aimed to promote the RDPRA identified priority areas from the Regional Development Plan 2017-2022 Midterm Update. It also sought to generate commitment from the academe, government, research consortia, and private sector to support the promotion, advocacy, and undertaking of the highlighted research topics in the RDPRA.

Dr. Aniceto C. Orbeta, Jr., President of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, gave a presentation on Translating Development Research into Policy Toward a Resilient Economy.

“Translating evidence-based research into effective policymaking is crucial to the attainment of a robust and healthy economy,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance to understand the cognitive styles of stakeholders, provision of timely inputs, respecting stakeholders’ policy/program commitments, and recognizing the need to communicate information to the constituents to improve utilization of research results.

This was followed by a presentation on Designing Policy Research – Methods, Processes, and Analysis by Dr. Catherine Roween Almaden, President of the Northern Bukidnon State College.

Engr. Romela N. Ratilla, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations and Chief Science Research Specialist of the Department of Science and Technology - Regional Office X, also explained the Research for Science, Technology and Innovation and the highlights of the Regional Research and Development Agenda.

Key development research partners of the RDC-X from the Higher Education Institutions and regional R&D consortia expressed their commitment to support the promotion, advocacy and undertaking of the topics in the RDPRA during said forum.

Partners from the local government units, regional line agencies, government instrumentalities, and private sector also manifested their support.

Outputs from the forum will be monitored and will serve as inputs in the updating of the RDPRA as an accompanying document of the successor Northern Mindanao Regional Development Plan 2023-2028. (NEDA-10)
