CALAMBA, Misamis Occidental (PIA)—A mayoralty aspirant of Calamba town, Misamis Occidental survived an assassination attempt by a motorcycle-riding gunman.
Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Director P/Col Anthony V. Placido said that on March 13 at 9:20 a.m. in Purok-1 Barangay Southwestern Poblacion, Calamba, wherein the victim was identified as one George Jr. Matunog Oliveros, 55, married and a resident of number 369 Matunog St., P-1, Barangay Southwestern Poblacion, Calamba.
Initial investigation conducted disclosed that while the victim was walking together with his personal bodyguard along the highway towards his residence coming from a store opening celebration of 7/11 Convenience Store and upon reaching in-front of Double M Mini Mart, approximately 20 meters away from his house, two unidentified motor-riding suspects, riding a black suzuki raider motorcycle suddenly appeared and then shot the victim once, with the use of a Cal. 45 pistol hitting the back portion of his head and subsequently exited through the right cheek.
The quick response team (QRT) of Calamba Municipal Police Station swiftly responded to the incident and immediately brought the victim to Calamba District Hospital for medical treatment which was later transferred to Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center, Ozamiz City.
The victim is now in stable condition.
Recovered from the crime scene; one fired cartridge case of caliber 45, and one fired bullet of caliber 45, that are now in custody of Calamba MPS for proper disposition.
Calamba MPS conducted a hot pursuit operation on the fleeing suspects and subsequently informed the adjacent municipalities to conduct checkpoint operations for the possible apprehension of the suspect.
The director also assured the public that thorough investigation is currently being undertaken for the possible identification and apprehension of the suspects.
He also appealed to the public to support the PNP through cooperation and reporting of timely and relevant information especially those who have witnessed the said shooting incident. (MOPPO/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
