Labason women salt-makers and fish dryers get P710K DOST aid

Bayangan Women Vendors Association (BWVA) received a funding assistance of P710,266.00 from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-IX) led by Assistant Regional Director Engr. Mahmud L. Kingking, on February 16, 2022.
 
BWVA were represented by Vice Chairperson Arcelita Partosa, Secretary Wilma Tingcang, and Treasurer Gella Ponggo, while DOST-IX Provincial S&T Director Nuhman Aljani, DENR Protected Area Superintendent Elvira Zamoras, and CRMU Chief Mary Jane Daarol were there as a witnesses.
 
The funding assistance is for the newly-approved project entitled “Adoption of Multi-Commodity Solar Tunnel Dryer (MCSTD) and Hybrid Salt Making Facility to Support Fish Processing Enterprise of Bayangan Women Vendors Association (BWVA).”
 
The project will establish a salt-making facility and upgrade the fish drying enterprise of the association. BWVA is based in Murcieliagos Island, a protected area under the supervision of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), with some 26 families as its member beneficiaries or around 100 individuals. The residents on the island are primarily engaged in fishing and fish drying activities as their primary livelihood.
