KALAWIT, ZDN – The Philippine Carabao Center – Mindanao Livestock Production Center (PCC-MLPC) received P1.4 Million funding assistance from the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. IX (DOST-IX) on February 17, 2022.
Engr. Mahmud Kingking, DOST-IX Assistant Regional Director, led the fund turn over to Dr. Cecilio Velez, Center Director for PCC-MLPC. Likewise, the event was graced by Kalawit Mayor Salvador Antojado, Jr., PCC’s Ms. Fe Academia, and DOST Zamboanga del Norte Provincial S&T Director Mr. Nuhman Aljani.
The project aims to upgrade PCC’s milk processing facility through acquisition of key equipment, thus, paving way for semi-mechanization of dairy processing – from milk collection, pasteurization, and packaging. The equipment is set to modernize the current manual milk processing operation, further enhancing the product quality and process.
“It will help improve our processing facility and become a model for cooperatives or entrepreneurs to benchmark with.” Dr. Velez highlighted. He added that the plan will enable the facility to explore into product development, research and innovation. PCC-MLPC is an agency attached to the Department of Agriculture (DA), which its mission is to improve the competitiveness of the livestock industry and livestock-based enterprises.
Mr. Aljani affirms that the project intends to ensure the availability of safe and sufficient sources of milk and milk-based products in the region to support the government’s supplemental feeding program.
The project is funded through the DOST's local Grant-In-Aid (GIA) program that aims to harness the country's scientific and technological capabilities to spur and attain sustainable economic growth and development.
