MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon (PIA)--A total of 527 children in Malaybalay City have been identified by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 as beneficiaries of its program dubbed “Tutok Kainan-Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP).”
These children, aged 6-23 months, were identified during this year’s ‘Operation-Timbang Plus’ activity.
As one of the identified recipients of TK-DSP Phase II, Malaybalay City is now in action to prevent stunting among children through TK-DSP, a joint program of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Against Hunger and NNC.
With this, the City Health Office-Nutrition section received 205 boxes of fortified food blend—a ready-to-eat complementary food from NNC-10 to supplement the meals of 6-23-month-old children. These are delivered to the barangays thru their district drop-off points on a scheduled basis.
The TK-DSP which started last May 2, will continually give fortified food blends to 6-23-month-old beneficiaries for 180 days.
Each Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) conducts house-to-house food distribution at the barangay level. Parents are also being counseled on good nutrition by strongly capitalizing on breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding.
NNC-10’s Provincial Nutrition Coordinator Gwyn Balaba monitors the program’s implementation and solicits feedback, gaps, and challenges from the focal persons at the barangay level, the beneficiaries, as well as the local government unit through City Nutrition Action Officer Eza Canonigo and City Nutrition Program Coordinators.
Likewise, the Barangay Nutrition Scholars are required to submit weekly reports via social media and physical forms in the City Nutrition for consolidation.

Giving nutritious food commodities to nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children 6-23 months old is part of the National Dietary Supplementation Program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022.
“Through the unwavering support and collaboration of our LGU focal persons, Barangay implementers, and beneficiaries, stunting prevalence along with other forms of malnutrition in Malaybalay City will soon be alleviated,” Malaybalay CNAO Eza Canonigo said. (Malaybalay CHO/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
