CAMIGUIN (PIA)--The Northern Mindanao Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC)-10 conducted its 2nd quarter 2022 project field visits in the province of Camiguin, May 25-27, that include three projects funded under the Project Convergence on Value Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment (ConVERGE) of the Department of Agrarian Reform with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development.  

The primary objective of ConVERGE is to enhance the production and supply end of the value chain for smallholders.  The project emphasizes improved processes to increase production and net benefits to farmers through better inputs and access to technology, higher-yielding varieties, and better products for the market. 

The facilities monitored have improved productivity and the income of Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in the province of Camiguin, particularly in meeting the demand for abaca fiber of their buyer, Newtech Pulp Incorporated (NPI).

The team also visited several projects of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-10 including the Taguines Lagoon Experimental Station, and the Multi-Species Hatchery in Barangay Manuyog, Sagay, Camiguin.  

Also inspected were major bypass road projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-10 that include the Camiguin Circumferential Road; service road to Binangawan Falls, Sagay; construction of Quipasa Road, Mambajao; concreting of Basiao and Volcan Road, Naasag, Mambajao; and the tourism destination cross country road from Mainit, Catarman to Mambajao.

The team also inspected the recently completed Camiguin Airport Rehabilitation Project, and the Balingoan Port Expansion Project, as well as projects funded under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health (DOH) located in Camiguin General Hospital, and Barangay Compol, Catarman Barangay Health Station.
